USDA Extends Formula Flexibility for WIC Program

Additional cost for formula will be covered above the original program funding.

The Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced last month that it will be extending flexible formula options for those in the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Some specialty formulas are too expensive for the program’s original funding, so the USDA will be covering the additional costs for those formulas so families in the program have access to the options they need while the formula shortage is still ongoing.

“Ensuring families have the formula they need continues to be an all-hands-on-deck, cross-sector effort, and USDA remains fully engaged,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. “WIC families are counting on us, and we will continue to use all the tools at our disposal to get them the nourishment their babies need.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Vilsack as he and other department officials support solutions to the formula shortage.
  • For the president and his administration as programs are put in place to promote food security.
  • For mothers and families of infants who are dependent upon baby formula for their nutrition.
